At the start of the war, the greens offered the position of master of ships to Dalton Greyjoy, the Lord of the Iron Islands. However, Rhaenyra‘s council tempted him with a better offer, leading House Greyjoy to side with the blacks. With Lord Jason Lannister dead and his army destroyed at the Red Fork, and the Reach’s green armies heading east to Tumbleton, the western coasts were left vulnerable.
For several years, Dalton and his Ironborn raided and plundered the coasts of the Westerlands and the Reach. They came close to capturing Kayce and successfully seized Fair Isle. Although they couldn’t breach Casterly Rock after the widow Johanna closed its gates, they managed to sack Lannisport.
