Rhaenyra’s Death

Rhaenyra Targaryen faced many challenges after her defeat. She was refused entry at several places, and her own men deserted her. Eventually, she sold her crown to buy passage on a Braavosi ship, hoping to hatch new dragons from Dragonstone’s eggs. However, her plans were foiled when Ser Alfred Broome and his men killed her remaining followers and captured her, along with her ladies and her son, Aegon the Younger.

Inside Dragonstone’s gates, Rhaenyra faced Aegon II Targaryen and his wounded dragon, Sunfyre. Aegon II fed Rhaenyra to Sunfyre while her son watched. Aegon the Younger became a hostage to prevent Rhaenyra’s loyalists from continuing the fight in his name.

Later, Sunfyre the Golden died on Dragonstone. Despite Rhaenyra’s death, Aegon II planned to return to King’s Landing. Even though Rhaenyra was gone, her cause lived on, but Aegon II’s rule would only last for another half a year.
