Phil Daniels as Maester Gerardys

He worked as a Maester on Dragonstone for Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. After that, he was Queen Rhaenyra’s Grand Maester and a member of her black council.

How He Looks Like and Where He Came From

In 120 AD, Gerardys was already an older man known for being a great therapist. On Dragonstone, Gerardys took care of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. He also flew with Prince Daemon Targaryen to help Lady Laena Velaryon after she had a hard birth, but they got there too late.

When King Viserys I Targaryen fell and cut his hand open on the Iron Throne, Rhaenyra flew Gerardys to King’s Landing because he was considered a better doctor. Grand Maester Mellos had tried to treat the wound but failed. Two of the king’s fingers were cut off by Gerardys, who saved his life.

Rhaenyra suggested that Gerardys take over as Grand Maester after Mellos died. Queen Alicent wished that Maester Alfador, who worked for House Hightower, be named to the job. Viserys didn’t choose between the two options because both attacked him. He told his wife and daughter that the Citadel would choose the new leader. In the end, Archmaester Orwyle was chosen by the assembly to be the new Grand Maester.

Grand Maester Orwyle came to Dragonstone to get Rhaenyra to agree to Aegon II Targaryen as king. When he did, Rhaenyra got angry and took his chain of office off his neck and gave it to Gerardys, whom she called a true loyal worker. Then she told Orwyle to go back to King’s Landing.

Rhaenyra put Grand Maester Orwyle in jail when she took over King’s Landing. She then sent a bird to the Citadel to tell them that her trusted Maester, Gerardys, would be her Grand Maester. When it came out that the Two Betrayers had joined the enemy, only Gerardys and Lord Corlys Velaryon, the Hand of the Queen, spoke out in support of the other two Dragonseeds, Nettles and Addam Velaryon. The queen was afraid that these two would also betray her.

Their words didn’t move Rhaenyra, so she told the guards to arrest Ser Addam. Lord Corlys quietly told Addam, who took Seasmoke to get out of the city. Lord Corlys was imprisoned for what he did, and Rhaenyra began to doubt Gerardys’s loyalty because he had spoken out for the Dragonseeds, just like Corlys had, even though he denied knowing about what the Hand had done. Queen Rhaenyra no longer trusted Gerardys, so he was sent back to Dragonstone. He was saved the dungeons because he had been a traitor in the past.

Gerardys stayed on Dragonstone, but King Aegon II Targaryen and his followers captured him when Dragonstone fell. The Grand Maester was about to send a message to Rhaenyra when Ser Marston Waters caught him off guard in the rookery. Later, when Aegon II is in a lot of pain, he offers him milk of the poppy, but Aegon turns it down because he thinks it is poisonous and says that Gerardys is his sister’s child.

It was Aegon’s idea to slowly hang Gerardys by the very chain of office that Rhaenyra had given him. As he was slowly lifted off the ground, he kicked. When he was almost dead, he was let down to catch his breath before being lifted again. After the third time, his insides were cut out and dangled in front of the hurt Sunfyre so the dragon could eat his legs. However, King Aegon told some of Gerardys’s army to stay behind to greet his sister.

Rhaenyra didn’t know about the fall of Dragonstone when she left King’s Landing. When she got to Duskendale, she sent a bird to Dragonstone to let the guards know she was returning and to send a ship for them. When she didn’t hear back, Rhaenyra became more suspicious of Gerardys. When Rhaenyra and her group got to the island, they were taken to the castle and shown around. There, they saw the burned body of Ser Robert Quince hanging from the battlements next to the gatehouse, along with the bodies of Dragonstone’s captain of the guard, master-at-arms, steward, and finally the upper torso of Gerardys, with his guts hanging out from his torn stomach.
