Lord Jasper’s sobriquet Ironrod, according to Septon Eustace, came from his rigid approach to legal issues. On the other hand, the ribald story of Mushroom says that the name comes from the stiffness of Jasper’s member because he had twenty-nine children with four wives before the last one died of exhaustion.

In 129 AC, King Viserys I Targaryen passed away while sleeping. Lord Jasper was called to the small council meeting in Queen Alicent Hightower‘s room. Instead of Princess Rhaenyra, who had been named Viserys’s heir, Alicent’s son would be crowned Aegon II. Lord Lyman Beesbury was the only council member who supported Rhaenyra. Jasper told him about the Great Council in 101 AC and how Old King Jaehaerys I picked Prince Baelon over Princess Rhaenys as his heir in 92 AC.

Jasper also talked about Aegon the Conqueror, his sister-wives Visenya and Rhaenys, and the Andal tradition that says a son’s rights come before those of a girl. Grand Maester Orwyle asked Ironrod about those who wouldn’t bow down to Aegon II. Ironrod told him that those people would die as rebels.

Jasper told Prince Regent Aemond Targaryen to call Lord Ormund Hightower and Prince Daeron Targaryen from the Reach as the Dance of the Dragons continued. Jasper cautioned Aemond, but Aemond ignored him and headed for Harrenhal.

Rhaenyra captured Jasper when King’s Landing fell in 130 AC. Rhaenyra put several lords to death for treason. Jasper was the second person to be beheaded, following Ser Otto Hightower. To his death, Before a daughter, Ironrod demanded that the Iron Throne should go to a King’s son.
