Phoebe Campbell as Lady Rhaena Targaryen

Lady Rhaena Targaryen was one of Prince Daemon Targaryen and Lady Laena Velaryon’s twin children. She was also known as Rhaena of Pentos and Rhaena Corbray. Her older twin sister was Baela Targaryen. Rhaena was King Viserys I Targaryen‘s niece and King Aegon II Targaryen‘s cousin. They were blood-related, and she had a half-sister named Visenya Targaryen, who died before she was born. Rhaena rode Morning, a dragon.

How Rhaena Targaryen Looks Like and Her Character

Rhaena and her twin sister Baela were both pretty. They had purple eyes and hair that was silver-white. The twins had never been apart as little girls and were hard to tell apart. By the time they were sixteen, they no longer looked alike, even though they were both tall and thin. Rhea was thin and agile, and Baela was also thin and quick, with hair that was as short as a boy’s. Rhaena liked to dance, while Baela liked to fly and ride.

Rhaena Targaryen’s Birth and Early Life and Youth

Rhaena and Baela were born in Pentos in 116 AD. They were both very small and sick. The princess Rhaenys Targaryen, who was her maternal grandma, gave her the name Rhaena. When they were six months old, the twins sailed from Pentos to Driftmark with their mother, Laena Velaryon. Rhaena was brought to court by her father, Prince Daemon Targaryen, in the year 117 AC.

Rhaena was meant to marry her cousin, Prince Lucerys Velaryon, in 118 AC. King Viserys I Targaryen gave his approval. Rhaena got a dragon egg, but the hatchling dragon was sick and died just hours after coming out of its egg. Rhaena was eventually given an egg from a different clutch that Syrax had laid. She slept with it every night and hoped for a dragon like her sister Moondancer.

Rhaena Targaryen in the Dance of the Dragons

Rhaena was picked to go to Gulltown with Prince Joffrey Velaryon to protect them during the Dance of the Dragons, even though they were told it was to protect the Vale of Arryn from King Aegon II Targaryen’s dragons. Rhaena brought three dragon eggs to the Vale and prayed every night for their hatching.

Rhaena stayed in the Vale during the civil war because she was Lady of the Eyrie Jeyne Arryn’s servant. In the Vale, Rhaena lived a luxurious and comfortable life. Maids brushed her hair and filled her baths. Singers wrote songs about her beauty, and men fought for her love. Rhaena became “especially fond” of Ser Corwyn Corbray while staying at the Eyrie. One of her dragon eggs finally hatched, and Rhaena quickly became close with the baby dragon, whom she named Morning.

The greens were very upset when they heard about Morning’s birth at the beginning of 131 AC. They had lost all of their dragons in the war. Because Morning was born, Dowager Queen Alicent Hightower was afraid that the smallfolk would see the blacks as more respectable. It was only going to last another six months, though, and Morning was still too young to ride during that time.

Lady Rhaena Targaryen in the Reign of Aegon III

When the war was over, Rhaena and her dragon went with Lady Jeyne with a large group of people sailing from Gulltown to King’s Landing. When Rhaena got to the capital, she saw her twin sister Baela again. The city fell in love with the two of them right away.

The sight of Morning, one of the few living dragons and the only one in King’s Landing, caused ecstatic jubilation among the smallfolk. When Rhaena’s half-brother Prince Aegon Targaryen saw Morning for the first time, he turned pale and commanded his guards to “get that wretched creature out of my sight.” Rhaena’s mother Rhaenyra Targaryen had seen a dragon eat her.

Some of the most important people who asked for their grandpa, Lord Corlys Velaryon, to be forgiven were Rhaena and Baela. When they went straight to Aegon with their plea, he did what the Hand of the King, Lord Cregan Stark, didn’t want and let the Sea Snake go free. Mushroom, on the other hand, said that Lady Alysanne Blackwood was the one who went to Cregan and asked him to spare Corlys.

Rhaena and her sister Baela were thought to be the only Targaryens left after the ascension of her cousin and half-brother, King Aegon III Targaryen, as Aegon Viserys Targaryen was believed dead at the time. Rhaena and Baela were well-liked in King’s Landing because they often went through the city. Aegon and Jaehaera, on the other hand, stayed in the Red Keep.

The twins rode out to hunt or hawk, helped the poor, hosted guests, and met envoys and visiting lords. Artists wanted to draw or paint Rhaena, and the best dressmakers in the city wanted the honor of making her dresses. Dozens of young lords competed for her smile. Rhaena spent all of her time with Morning, her young dragon, who was always wrapped around her shoulders like a stole.

Her Marrigae Life

After Rhaena’s grandpa, Lord Corlys Velaryon, died suddenly in 132 AD, the Council of regents started to talk about who would be Aegon’s heir. Most people in the realm thought that Baela and Rhaena were the only two people who could be the king’s children.

Even though Baela was the older twin, the Council saw Rhaena as more acceptable because she was less stubborn and easier to control. Unlike Baela, who lost her dragon Moondancer in the fall of Dragonstone, Rhaena still had her dragon Morning. Myles Mooton pointed out that Rhaena only had a hatchling. Lord Roland Westerling then said that Baela had killed King Aegon II and that many people would be angry if she was crowned.

When Grand Maester Munkun tried to stop the debate, he said that both Baela and Rhaena were women and therefore not eligible because the Dance of the Dragons showed that they had to support the male claimant because that’s what the Great Council of 101 AC said. The Hand, Tyland Lannister, said that all of the male candidates had been killed.

The regents planned to marry Baela to Lord Thaddeus Rowan to keep her from being impulsive and give a possible queen a good partner. But she didn’t agree with their decision, so she ran to Driftmark to marry her cousin, Lord Alyn Velaryon, who was a legal jerk. The regents already thought this about Baela and feared she would soon get pregnant. They chose Rhaena to be Aegon’s child and told her to get married right away. Rhaena agreed to do what the king and Council wanted.

When Ser Tyland asked her which of her lovers she liked best, she said Ser Corwyn Corbray, whom she had met in the Vale. Corwyn wasn’t the best choice because he was the second son and had been married and divorced before. That being said, the House Corbray was old and well-known. Corwyn was a great fighter who carried the Valyrian steel sword Lady Forlorn, and his brother Lord Leowyn Corbray was the Protector of the Realm. Rhaena and Corwyn got married in just two weeks.

The court was happy when Rhaena told them she was pregnant in the second half of the year 133 AC, but she lost the baby within a month. Later that year, young Queen Jaehaera is said to have killed herself. Some people thought she might have been depressed after Rhaena lost the baby. The Hand Unwin Peake wanted to stop Rhaena or Baela from becoming queen, so he planned to marry King Aegon to his daughter Myrielle, who was still a virgin.

On the other hand, the lords and other regents of the realm thought Lord Unwin had gone too far and made him call a ball for Maiden’s Day so the king could choose his bride. At the Maiden’s Day Ball, the king was shown hundreds of young women, but when there were only a few left, Baela and Rhaena showed up out of the blue. Their cloaks had the Targaryen sigil on them, even though Baela was heavily pregnant and Rhaena was pale and thin from her miscarriage.

They looked like one person, dressed in black velvet and red rubies. The twins rode down the hall together on two black chargers, and Rhaena told Aegon that they had brought him his new queen. Corwyn, Rhaena’s husband, introduced Baela’s young daughter, Daenaera Velaryon. When the ball was over, Aegon said he would marry Daenaera. People in King’s Landing cheered when Aegon married Daenaera on the last day of 133 AC. On the other hand, Unwin Peake had never liked Baela and now he didn’t like Rhaena either. He thought they were both out to get him.

Rhaena and Corwyn went with the royal court to King’s Landing harbor in 134 AC to greet Alyn Velaryon’s return from his first great journey. The Oakenfist told them that Alyn had come back with Prince Viserys Targaryen, Aegon’s long-lost younger brother. Viserys’s return made the regents and his family very happy because he was the clear heir, older than any child born to Baela, Rhaena, or even the twins.

Later that year, Corwyn was made a member of the Council of regents. In the spring of 135 AC, he was sent to the Vale to restore peace and settle the issue of who would take over House Arryn. Rhaena rode Morning for the first time on the third day of the third moon in the year 135 AC. She flew around the city once before going back to the Dragonpit. But she soon got braver and flew farther every day.

Rhaena only stayed in the Red Keep once, though, because King Aegon was still afraid of dragons. Soon after, she flew across Blackwater Bay to Dragonstone, where she said, “Dragons and people who ride them are more welcome.” Corwyn, Rhaena’s husband, was killed at Runestone in the Vale later that spring while taking care of the Arryn succession. Baela went to Dragonstone to support her twin sister after her husband died and to make sure Rhaena wouldn’t use Morning to try to get revenge on Rhaena for killing her husband.

Rhaena wanted to go with the king on Morning when preparations for a royal progress were being made in 136 AD after Aegon turned sixteen. The Council of Regents, however, delicately rebuffed this proposal. Rhaena soon after got married to Garmund Hightower, who was Lord Lyonel Hightower‘s younger brother. They had six daughters together.
